James Joseph Hildick, age 79, of Avondale, PA passed away peacefully on June 14, 2018. Jim was born in 1939 to James and Margaret McHale Hildick. He was a graduate of St. James High School, class of 1957. Jim attended St. Joseph’s University and, after serving his country in the United States Army, graduated from PMC College in 1968. Jim spent the entirety of his career as an administrator in the healthcare industry and retired from the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in 2001. Jim met the love of his life, Jane Utmar, in high school and they were married in 1961. Jim and Jane settled in Wilmington, DE and that is where they raised their only child, Judith. The happiest days of Jim’s life were those spent with his family – on the beach in Sea Isle City, NJ, proudly attending St. Joseph basketball game, pursuing his love of military history by visiting local battlefields and reenactments, snuggling on the sofa with his beloved cat Maxx, or simply firing up the grill, where cooking time was measured, not in minutes, but rather in bottles of beer and laughs with Judi. Jim and his beautiful blue eyes will be missed and lovingly remembered every single day by his wife of 57 years, Jane, his daughter Judith and son-in-law Brad Mitchell (who Jim could not have loved more if Brad were his own son). He is also survived by two brothers, John (Kathy) of Sea Isle City, NJ and Michael (Jeanette) of Maricopa, Arizona and sister in law, Cathy of Charlotte, NC. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Donald. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 am on Wednesday June 20, 2018 at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Church, 10 Old Church Rd., Wilmington, Delaware. Burial will be private. The family would like to thank our wonderful caregivers, Ashley and Tia, and the wonderful people we met through Heartland Hospice, all of whom provided loving care and support to the whole family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in Jim’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142 or to The Church of the Holy Child, 2500 Naamans Rd., Wilmington, DE 19810. For online condolences, please visit chandlerfuneralhome.com

Dear Jane, Judi and Brad, my parents wanted you to know how much they loved Jim and all of you at this very difficult time. One of my fondest memories was Jim pretending to be the big shark swimming after us in your Esther Williams pool in your backyard. We would scream and laugh when he caught us and pulled us under the water. I could never hit his "wicked" left handed curve ball we all played in the backyard. All bulldogs are mourning your loss but know that Karen, I and the girls are keeping you all in our thoughts and prayers at this time. Much Love, Kevin

Dear Jane, Judi and Brad, my parents wanted you to know how much Jim touched their lives, how much they loved Jim and all you guys. My fondest memories are of Jim pretending to be the big shark in the Esther Williams pool you had in your backyard. We would scream and laugh when he would grab us pulling us under the water. I could never hit his "wicked" left handed curve ball in those great wiffle ball games we had in the backyard. His beautiful blue eyes so loving and full of life I will never forget! All bulldogs on earth are mourning your loss and know that Karen, I and the girls are keeping you all in our thoughts and prayers at this time. Much Love, Kevin

Aunt Jane, Judi & Brad, I am so sorry to hear of Uncle Jimmy's passing. I know he is probably sharing a drink with MomMom, PopPop & my Dad and laughing about old stories. We wish we could be with you on Wednesday as you were there for us through Dad's passing but, do know you are in our thoughts and prayers as you go through this difficult time.

Jimmy was a true gentleman, kind and thoughtful to other. He enjoyed the shore, eating crabs, sports, discussing politics, and his family. I first met Jimmy as an altar boy at Jane and Jimmy's wedding in 1961. We always enjoyed their hospitality at holiday parties and many good times. He will be missed by all.

I wish to offer my condolences to the Hildick family on the loss of Jimmy. He was a fine man, always the gentleman, kind and thoughtful to his family. I first met Jimmy when I served as an altar boy at Jane and Jimmy's wedding in 1961. As a family we always enjoyed his good company and the parties they threw at their house. We were always looking to see the cat when we visited, but it was usually hiding. He enjoyed life and we spent time in the summer eating crabs, discussing politics, or having a beer. Jimmy will be missed by all!
