Joan Donkin Obituary
Joan Stewart Donkin, 81 Joan Stewart Donkin, 81, died March 27, 2013 at Lankenau Hospital. Born in Washington, PA, she lived in Ridley Park since 1960. Joan was a graduate of Washington High School, Class of 1949 and California PA State Teachers College. Joan was employed as a teacher for the Interboro School District at Glenolden Elementary School before retiring in 1992. She was a member of Chambers Memorial Presbyterian Church and the Ladies Circles. Joan taught Vacation Bible School and was also a member of the Ridley Park Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. Joan enjoyed attending her grandchildren's sporting events and spending summers and weekends at Lake-In-Wood Campground in Berks Co. She collected antique glassware, enjoyed knitting and was an avid reader, but most important was her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Joan was the daughter of the late Russell V. and Eleanor Moore Stewart. Survivors: Loving wife of 58 years of Norman E. Donkin, Sr., mother of Ned Donkin, Jr. (Karen) and Mark Donkin (Suanne); sister of Martha Stewart and Russell V. Stewart, Jr.; grandmother of Heather, Courtney, Becky, Norm, Dana Rowe, Tara Valletti (Joe), and Bill Rowe (Jen), also survived by six great grandchildren. Funeral Service: 10 AM, Wednesday, at Chambers Memorial Presbyterian Church, Two Sylvan Ave., Rutledge, PA 19070. Visitation: 6 to 8 PM, Tuesday, at the White-Luttrell Funeral Home, 311 N. Swarthmore Ave., Ridley Park and 9 to 9:45 AM, Wednesday, at the above church. Burial: Edgewood Memorial Park Memorial Gifts: to the above church or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
