Susan Brobston Obituary
Susan (Susie) Scott Brobston Susan (Susie) Scott Brobston, of Lansdowne, passed away on April 8, 2014, age 66. She was preceded in death by her parents, Scott Brobston and Eda Marie Porter Brobston. Susie is survived by brothers Joseph Brobston and John Henry Brobston (Sara), sister Sandra B. Lowney (Joseph), 3 nephews, 3 great nieces and 2 great nephews. Susie taught at Ardmore Avenue Elementary School in Lansdowne for 36 years. One of the high points of her teaching career was helping to create, along with friend and music teacher Nicholas Damiani, an opera written, staged and preformed by 26 William Penn School District fourth graders from their classes. They & 30 other teachers had attended a workshop held by the Metropolitan Opera Guild of New York the previous summer. The opera said something important about children's lives from a child's perspective. The program demonstrated how creating an opera showed a practical side to school lessons - writing, music, math, science and teamwork. Susie was chosen 1 of 35 educators in the tri-state area to serve on "The Franklin Institute's Educators Advisory Council", whose role was to inspire a passion & understanding of science and technology for grades K thru 12. She was very active in the Pennsylvania Education Association and in local politics. She graduated from Moravian College and was president of the college choir both her junior and senior years helping to take the choir on tours of Europe and Jamaica. She attended the Scranton Girl Scout Council's Summer "Camp Archibald" starting after second grade and continuing past college graduation, initially as a camper and then as a counselor. Susie loved playing the piano and music in general as well as reading and writing poetry. She earned her pilot's license as a goal to attain and then never used it again. She was willing to travel anywhere any time-spontaneous or preplanned. She also enjoyed meeting friends for luncheons, afternoon teas and BYO dinner adventures. Service: "A gathering to remember Susie" will be held Sunday, May 18th, from 2p.m.-4p.m. in The Community Rooms of Wildman Arms, Bldg B, 30 W. Baltimore Ave. in Lansdowne. Parking is available in the front 2 rows of the bank parking lot across Baltimore Avenue. Memorial contributions: In Susie's name may be made to The Lansdowne Public Library, 55 S. Lansdowne Avenue, Lansdowne, Pa 19050, Attn: Lucille. Contributions will go toward "A Book for a Friend Forever" program. A new book will be added every year in Susie's name.
