Thomas Kanavel Obituary
Thomas "Cat" Kanavel Thomas "Cat" Kanavel, a 28-year resident of Norwood, died Friday, July 19, 2013 at home after a brief illness. Born in Philadelphia, Tom graduated from Interboro High School in 1976. He was employed by Summit Airlines, US Airways, and most recently, DHL International. Tommy was the definition of a true friend. He would talk to anyone who would listen. He loved life. He spent most of his 55 years of life laughing and making others laugh. Tommy always had friends, no matter where he went. Whether he knew you or not, he would not hesitate to strike up a conversation, and by the end of the conversation, you were his friend. Tommy especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He was never shy when it came to being the life of the party. His appetite for laughter was outdone only by his appetite for food. Tom loved to eat. Anyone who knew him understood that there would be no leftovers if Tommy was invited to dinner. Preceded in death by his father, Joseph W. Kanavel, Sr. Tommy's love of family is carried on by his survivors: His loving wife of 28 years, Cheryl (Emig) Kanavel of Norwood; his son, Robert (Ali Russo) Kanavel and daughter Megan (Charles Bolger) Kanavel, both of Norwood; his beloved granddaughter, Sky Lynne Bolger; and his mother, Joan Kanavel of Bear, DE. Tommy is also survived by his brothers, Joseph (Jackie) Kanavel, Jr. of Norwood, and Robert (Dolores) Kanavel of Summit, DE, and his sisters, Maryann (Mike) Murray of Bear, DE, and Patricia (Ken) Acker of Ridley Park. Services: Relatives and friends are invited to share stories of Tommy's life on Saturday, July 27, 2013, at St. Gabriel Roman Catholic Church, 233 Mohawk Ave., Norwood, PA 19074. Calling hours begin at 8:00 a.m. There will be a Funeral Mass at the church beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial: will be at SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Marple Twp., PA. In lieu of flowers: The family asks that contributions be made in Tommy's memory for his granddaughter, Sky Lynne Bolger, P.O. Box 56, Norwood, PA 19074.
