Alice C. Salmons Obituary
Alice C. Salmons, 86 Retired bookkeeper, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Alice C. Salmons, 86, of Middletown and formerly of Brookhaven, died December 24, 2010. Born in Nanticoke, Alice Beatrice Campbell was a 1941 graduate of Bartram High School in Philadelphia. As a young woman, Mrs. Salmons worked for two salt water taffy stores in Wildwood, NJ and later at Leas McVitty in Philadelphia as a receptionist and telephone operator. After WWII, her husband was injured on a construction job and Mrs. Salmons worked several part time jobs to provide for her fanmily. Mrs. Salmons raised her two daughters and then began a career as a bookkeeper/accountant, first at Container Research in Upland and later at Petrikin, Wellman, Damico & Carney in Media from which she retired in 1985. She loved playing bridge and golf with her husband and friends and spent many winters in Avon Park near Sebring, FL. She was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Chester, participating in choir, teaching Sunday School and Bible School and later of Mt. Hope United Methodist Church in Aston, chairing the worship committee for several years. She enjoyed entertaining her family and friends in her home and travelling to the shore in N.J. Mrs. Salmons lived in Brookhaven for 50 years before moving to Granite Farms Estate in 2006. She was the daughter of the late Henry J. and Alice H. Campbell, sister of the late Lily Mae Frasch, sister-in-law of the late Edith A. Salmons and grandmother of the late Ray E. Withelder. Survivors: Husband of 68 years Edwin Ray Salmons Jr.; 2 daughters Sheila Withelder (Ron) of Aston and Alice Corbett (Charles) of Chadds Ford; 2 grandsons Ronald Withelder (Lauren) and Chip Corbett; 2 granddaughters Amanda Reynolds (Brian) and Alison Corbett; 2 great-granddaughters Araya Reynolds and Olivia Withelder; 1 great-grandson Ray Withelder Service: Memorial Service January 5, 2011, Wednesday at 1 PM at Granite Farms Estate, 1343 W.
