Patrick Gerald McCarthy Sr., 75 Of Claymont, DE Patrick Gerald McCarthy Sr., 75, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday June 12, 2011 at Crozer Chester Medical Center in Upland, PA after a long illness. Patrick was born in Chester, PA on April 27, 1936, son of the late Patrick L. and Marie McCarthy. Patrick attended St. James High School in Chester, PA and served in the PAa Air National Guard. He worked at Phoenix Steel, Cannon Enterprises and Hutchinson Enterprises, retiring in 1985. Patrick started in the fire service at the age of 16 at Franklin Fire Co. in Chester, PA and continued the last 26 years as a Life Active Member of Claymont Fire Co. serving as Vice President and various other Board of Director positions. He was a member of Holy Rosary Church where he served on Parish Council for many years and was a member of the Knights of Columbus recently achieving the Fourth Degree. In 1964 Patrick married the love of his life, the late Rita Marth. Patrick also enjoyed being with his kids and grandkids especially watching the grandkids sporting events. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by 4 sisters Mary McCarthy, Helen Smegelskie, Gertrude Coupe and Jean Homa. Survivors: 3 children Patrick G. McCarthy Jr., Janice Myers and husband Randall, David L. McCarthy and wife Lisa; 6 grandkids Amanda, Caitlyn, Emily, Matthew, Nicole and Kyle; sister Patricia Yacyshyn. Viewing Thursday, June 16th 6 to 8 PM and Friday, June 17th 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE (Talleyville). Overflow parking is available at the YMCA on Mt. Lebanon Rd. Mass of Christian Burial Friday 11 AM at Holy Rosary Church, 3200 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE. Burial will be private.
