George Thomas Spillane Obituary
George Thomas Spillane George Thomas Spillane, 84 of Lewes, Delaware, went home to be with the Lord on December 31, 2012. He was one of five children born to George & Lillian Spillane in Jersey City, NJ on December 16, 1928 . Professor Spillane enjoyed a long and successful career as an English instructor at Delaware County Community College in Media, PA and later at Widener University. Among his notable awards and honors is being named Pennsylvania Professor of the Year in 1993. George's love of literature compelled him to become a theatre actor and director. Among his many successes are his performances of "King Lear" and as Scrooge in "A Christmas Carol" at Hedgerow Theatre in Rose Valley, PA.; as well as productions with the Wilmington Drama League, and work with the Possum Point Players/Ad Hoc Touring Company in Delaware. Survivors:loving wife Ann Spillane, four siblings: Dorothy Anan, Patricia Bryant, Janet Antine, and Robert Spillane; six children: Kathleen Knapp Robertson, Judith Spillane, Maureen Goen, Peggy Phillips, Sharon Garcia, and Tim Spillane; 2 step daughters: Wendy Trimble and Michelle Rzasa, 21 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. Viewing will be held on Friday, January 4, 2013 from 2-4pm at Conley's Methodist Church in Lewes, DE with a service beginning at 4pm. Burial: will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2103 11am at Lawncroft Cemetery in Linwood, PA followed by a memorial service at St. Timothy's Lutheran Church in Aston, PA at 12pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Conley's Methodist Church in Lewes, DE or Possum Point Players in Georgetown, DE or Hedgerow Theatre in Rose Valley, PA.
