Richard Thomas Burke, Sr., age 70, died on Monday, February 18, 2013 at Kindred Hospital in Havertown.A longtime Delaware County resident; Richard previously resided in Swarthmore Woods before moving to Wallingford for 11 years. Raised and educated in Philadelphia for 23 years, Mr. Burke was a 1960 graduate of West Catholic High School. He served his country proudly in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam Era. He was employed as a sales representative for WTC Airfreight, after which, he founded Riccar Airfreight.He later worked as a sales director for Cardinal Publishing Company. Richard was involved with Delaware County Democratic Politics in the 1970's, and he was a volunteer at Notre Dame deLourdes R.C. Church in Swarthmore. He was a member of the Swarthmore Woods Athletic Association, he was an avid cook, Philadelphia Eagles fan and a great woodworker with carpentry.He was proud of his service in the Marine Corps, he enjoyed listening to music, spending time with his family, friends and his grandchildren. Richard also enjoyed vacationing in Sea Isle City and traveling to Ireland, Italy and Florida with his family. Mr. Burke was the son of Charles Judson Burke and Regina (nee Kulesa) Burke, and the brother of the late Charles Burke.Survivors: his loving wife of 47 years, Carol (nee Vitale) Burke, his son Richard T. Burke, Jr. (Jenifer) and his daughter Annmarie Burman (Marty); also surviving are his cherished grandchildren Benjamin, Alex, Leo, Sam, Riley and Ryan. Funeral Mass: Friday, 10:00 am., at Notre Dame deLourdes R.C. Church, Michigan Avenue & Fairview Road, Swarthmore.Visitation: Thursday, from 7:00 to 9:00 pm., at the Nolan - Fidale Funeral Home, Ltd., 2316 Providence Avenue in Chester, and Friday from 9:00 to 9:50 am., at the Church.
