FRANKLIN, ANTHONY "TONY" - Chesterville
MOUNT GILEAD — Anthony "Tony" Franklin, 46, of Chesterville, died Monday afternoon, Dec. 15, 2014, at his residence following a battle with cancer. He was born on Feb. 11, 1968, the son of Paul I. and Ida Christeen (VanHoose) Franklin, in Delaware, Ohio. Tony grew up in Ashley and graduated from Buckeye Valley High School in the class of 1986, where he enjoyed playing football and basketball. On Aug. 10, 1991, Tony married Jerri I. McDaniel in Lewis Center, Ohio. Together they shared 23 wonderful years of marriage. Tony had a heart of gold, he enjoyed working for Delaware Hayes High School where he was a teacher's aid in the multiple handicap classroom. He also enjoyed sharing God's word as a preacher at the North Woodbury Freewill Baptist Church. Tony truly was a family man. He loved spending time with his children and wife. He loved to joke, laugh, and truly cared about those around him. In his spare time he enjoyed going fishing, playing the guitar, singing, and hunting for treasures at local yard sales. Tony had a strong faith in the Lord and loved going to church and various church related activities such as camps and plays. A little over two years ago, Tony was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. That is where his faith and trust was really put to the test. With all of the struggles he had, he never complained and always kept a smile on his face because he knew God had him under His wings and was taking care of him. Putting his struggles in God's hands made him not to worry and realize with God he's a winner either way. Tony sure won his ultimate prize. Tony will be missed by his wife, Jerri; children, Skylar, Abbie, Addie, and Shayla Franklin of Chesterville; mother, Ida Christeen Franklin of Ashley; siblings, Paul "Mike" (Boneita) Franklin of Cardington, Chris (Mark) Rice-Mehaffey of Ashley, and Robert (Patty) Franklin of Ashley; nieces and nephews, Nikita, Matt, Patty, Justin, Jessica, Brock, and Andrew; great-nieces and nephews, Sophia, Bianca, Cecelia, Carrie, Nicholas, and Levi; a brother-in-law, Ronnie "Mitchel" (Heather) VanHoose; a father and mother-in-law, David (Peggy) McDaniel; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his father, Paul. Family will greet friends from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 19, 2014, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead. A funeral service will be held there at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2014, with Pastor Rob Ratcliff officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery.
