WINTER, EDWARD MONROE
DELAWARE — Edward Monroe Winter graduated to heaven on Friday, Jan. 30, 2015 from his home in Willow Brook Christian Village. Ed impacted many lives through the years by sharing his experiences of learning, and growing in his relationship with Jesus Christ. We all are thankful for the selfless love he shared with us, and so many others. Ed is now reaping in heaven what he has sown in earthly sacrifices, small and large. His eyes now behold the glory they were meant to see all along. His breath now gives voice to worship face-to-face with his Savior. His once weak heart now beats strong and steady in the presence of the One who has held it together all along. What Jesus taught him here on earth, through experiences and relationships with the people he loved, have become the foundation for his most passionate adventures, his most masterful projects, and his most awe inspiring discoveries that are only now beginning. Ed's experiences started Feb. 8, 1932 in Putien, Fujian, China born of missionary parents Charles and Virginia Winter. Ed's childhood years were spent in the states but his family returned to China in 1946 where he attended and graduated from Shanghai American High School. Ed attended Adrian College in Adrian, Michigan where he met his beloved Evelyn Wangerin and they married in August 1953. He entered the Army in December of 1953. Ed spent 13 months in Japan, returning to enroll in Purdue University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science and his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering. His work career began at Battelle Memorial Institute in Columbus, Ohio. He then spent four years teaching chemical engineering at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. Upon returning to Columbus, Ed worked in the Columbia Gas Research Department for 22 years. Moving to Pittsburgh, Pa., Ed did contract work for the government with Burns and Roe for 5 years. Upon retirement, Ed and Evelyn moved to a retirement community in Delaware, Ohio. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Evelyn; sons, Bruce (Carole) of Midland, Mich. and Glenn (Eileen) of Stevensville, Mich.; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; sister, Clara Jean (Dick) Gasvoda of Concord, Calif.; sister-in-law, Nancy of Beverly, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews. His parents and his brother, James preceded him in death. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Willow Brook Christian Village, 100 Willow Brook Way South, Delaware, Ohio at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2015 in the Terrace Room. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Willow Brook Christian Village or Heartland Hospice Memorial Fund ( heartlandhospicefund.org ). Arrangements have been entrusted to the Snyder-Rodman Funeral Center, 1510 W. William St. at Valleyside Drive, Delaware, Ohio. Condolences may be expressed to the family and memories may be shared by visiting www.snyderfuneralhomes.com .
