Emma F. (Burrell) Bracken(1916 - 2013)

Emma F. Bracken, 97, of Delaware and formerly of Benton Harbor, Mich., went to be with the Lord Tuesday (Feb. 12, 2013) at Grady Memorial Hospital.
She was born Jan. 10, 1916, in Benton Harbor, Mich., to the late Eugene and Nettie Burrell. She was married to O. T. Bracken for more than 50 years. He preceded her in death. Together they had two children, a son whom they raised, Dennis Bowens, now deceased, and a daughter, Charlene Tynes, who survives. Emma worked many years as a retail clerk. A woman of great faith and a devoted church member, she was a member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Benton Harbor for more than 75 years and attended Second Baptist Church in Delaware. She was active with the church choir, was a missionary teacher, taught Vacation Bible School and was a prayer band leader for more than 35 years. Emma was an avid traveler, having visited all 50 states in addition to trips to Africa, Rome, Paris and Switzerland. She also enjoyed cruises to the Bahamas and Jamaica and has souvenirs from every destination she visited.
In addition to her daughter, she is survived by her grandchildren, David Bowen, Denise Hollins, Doreen Bowens; 13 great-grandchildren; 30 great-great grandchildren; five great-great-great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Terry Bowens; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives, as well as many church friends.
Emma was also preceded in death by siblings, William Burrell, Winifred Bowens, Evelyn Glenn; son-in-law, Richard Tynes; and grandson, Douglas Bowens.
Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Second Baptist Church in Delaware, 55 Ross St., Delaware, where a funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Lamont Coates officiating. Additional funeral services and burial will take place in Benton Harbor, Mich.
