Jeannette E. Curren, 91, of Sunbury, died Friday evening (Feb. 15, 2013) at Riverside Hospital in Columbus following surgery.
She was born Aug. 23, 1921, in Galena, to the late Frank and Anna May (Bohman) Goff. She was a retired teacher and principal for Columbus City Schools with more than 30 years of service, retiring in 1976. She was a member of the Sunbury United Methodist Church, the board of the Community Library, Big Walnut Historical Society, Sunbury Search Light Club, Phi Lamba Theta, Ohio ANA Library Association, The Ohio State Alumni Association, a life member of the Ohio Retired Teachers, a life member of the Delaware County Retired Teachers, Women of the Moose
in Delaware, and Phi Delta Gamma. She served as mayor of Sunbury from 1981 to 1984 and as a Village Council member. In her earlier years, she was a Girl Scout leader and was a State Senior Citizen of the Year. Jeannette loved teaching children, being a school administrator and was heavily involved in the community. Jeannette was a voracious reader. She collected dolls. She enjoyed playing euchre and traveling, going to Europe, Russia, Hawaii, England, Scotland, Ireland and all 50 states.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary (H. Scott) Bloch of Galena; grandchildren, Aaron Bloch of Memphis, Tenn., Adrianna Bloch of Carmel, Ind., Paul (Wanda) Bloch of Westerville; grandchildren, Alexi and Paige Bloch; special friends, Marge Potter of Centerburg, Phyllis DeVore of Sunbury; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold E. Curren, on Feb. 22, 1977; brothers, Frank Goff, Dr. Walter Goff, Harry Goff, Robert Goff, James Goff; a sister, Julia Hewitt; and dear companion, Robert Hannawalt.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral home, Ohio 3 at 61, Sunbury. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Sunbury United Methodist Church, 100 E. Cherry St., Sunbury, with the Rev. Brian Smith officiating.
