Martha Kirk

MT. VERNON - Martha Lynn Kirk, 53 of Mt. Vernon was born into this life on Dec. 10, 1960, she was born into God's family on September 14, 1975, she departed this life and entered eternal rest on Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, while at home surrounded by her earthly family.

Born in Columbus to the late Gerald "Pete" and Irene (Smith) Chadwick, she was a 1979 graduate of Big Walnut High School, where she participated in Drama Club and a 1992 graduate of Knox County Career Center LPN Program.

A dedicated member of True Bible Baptist Church, it was there she met her husband of 27 years Frank Kirk. With a deep and abiding faith, for 38 years she was a dedicated church member, assisting in every way she could. Living a church centered life she loved to sing the old songs of Zion and attend worship.

Martha worked as a LPN with Friendship Village. She also enjoyed working in her flower gardens and especially tending to her roses. She was fond of quilts and enjoyed shopping for antiques.

She treasured having her family near. Family dinners were always made special by her talents in the kitchen and warm heart; all were welcome at her table. Generous beyond compare, she loved unconditionally and was at her best in the house of God in the company of her beloved family.

In addition to her husband Frank she is also survived by son Ezra Paul Kirk, daughter Sarah (Rodney) Boyd all of Mt. Vernon, brothers Don (Margie) Bernard of Sparta, Greg (Holly) Chadwick of Chesterville, John Chadwick of Shady Cove, Oregon, sisters Rita (Jim) Longshore of Sunbury, Mabel (Scott) Engert of Centerburg, Mary (Larry) Carmen of Gahanna, as well as a host of extended family.

She was also preceded in death by sisters: Alice (Brice) Kinney and Ruth (Art) Burton; brother: Dale "Squirrel" Bernard.

Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR's 3 at 61, Sunbury, where services giving glory to God for the life of Martha Kirk will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, with Brothers JR Smith and James Watts officiating. Burial will follow in Bird Cemetery near Bangs.
