Natalie E. (Sheets) Wigton(1920 - 2013)

Natalie E. Wigton, 93, of Sunbury, entered into the gardens of Heaven Monday (Feb. 25, 2013) while surrounded by her family.
She was born Feb. 24, 1920, in Delaware, to the late Harold W. and Agnes (Kunze) Sheets. Natalie graduated from Brown High School in 1938. While in high school, she met her husband to be, Clayton Wigton, to whom she was married for 40 years until his passing in 1979. Together they grew a family and farm at a place she called home for 66 years. From 1965 until 1979, she worked as a sales associate in the men's department of the former Peoples Store in Delaware. At one time or another, she attended one of the Kilbourne churches. For many years she participated in the elections board, was a member of the Kilbourne Grange and served as a 4-H advisor. Private and kind hearted, she was strong-willed and most independent. She loved family get-togethers, and holidays were always special. She enjoyed playing cards, euchre, bingo, and was a fan of Lawrence Welk. She had a passion for gardening - both flowers and vegetables. Her garden often contained more than 200 tomato plants. She participated in the Delaware Farmers Market, selling her bounty. She also created wedding and funeral flowers from her crop. As an active participant of the Delaware County Fair with her baked goods, vegetables, and flower arrangements, she always looked forward to the annual competition and was a frequent blue-ribbon winner. Flowers were always near, as she was a flower person through and through. The smell of her home-baked goods of fudge and cookies will long be remembered.
She was not only proud to see her garden grow, but also her family. She is survived by her children, Melvin (Pam) Wigton of Sherman, Texas, Eldon Wigton of Delaware, Belinda (David) Jackson, with whom she resided in Galena; granddaughter, Melissa (Thomas) Rankin; two step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, Jeremia, Logan, Kari, Tommy; four step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter Abby, as well as one expected; brother, Charles (Betty) Sheets of Delaware; sisters, Martha Jean (Jim) Stegner of Delaware and Phyllis (Bill) Coleman of Columbus.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Ohio 3 at 61, Sunbury, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Brian Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Sunbury Memorial Park.
