Virginia Donaldson Stocks, 92, died at 12:30 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 16, 2013) in Worthington.
She was born June 11, 1920, in Lodi (Medina County, Ohio) to Clifford C. Donaldson and Hazel Davis Donaldson. She graduated in 1937 from Marietta High School and received an A.B. degree at Marietta College in 1941. She was a member of Chi Omega Fraternity for Women. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and was active in Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Richmond, Va. She was a member of Chapter BH of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, a 50-year member and past matron of Marietta Chapter No. 59 Order of the Eastern Star, and a life member of Unit No. 64 American Legion Auxiliary and Unit No. 5108 of Veterans of Foreign Wars
Auxiliary. She was active in many musical organizations in the Marietta area. She was involved in numerous bridge clubs in Marietta, and in the Senior Citizens' Centers in Delaware and Richmond, Va. In 1996, the Ohio Department of Aging selected her "Caregriver of the Year" for the State of Ohio in recognition of her exemplary care for the elderly members of her family. She was employed as a secretary for Union Carbide Company and later retired as an executive secretary to the Academic Dean of Marietta College. At the time of her death, she had resided six months with her son in Richmond, Va., and six months with her daughter in Lewis Center.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Lee Stocks of Lewis Center; son, Richard D. (Linda) Stocks of Richmond, Va.; grandsons, Matthew D. Backus and Jeremy R. (Cara) Backus; great-grandsons, Zackary and Lucas Backus; and special friends, Thomas F. Brown, Joyce A. Foster and Eric Yim.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and by her husband, Graham L. Stocks, to whom she was married for more than 50 years.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at the Hadley Funeral Home Reno Chapel, 1021 Pike Street, Marietta. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, and again two hours prior to the funeral service. Interment will take place in Oak Grove Cemetery. A celebration of Virginia's life will be held on from 6:30 to 8 p.m. March 6 at 1623 Westwood Drive, Lewis Center.
