DELAWARE — John C. Russell, 92, of Delaware, died Thursday, Dec. 17, 2015 in Willow Brook Christian Village.
He was born Dec. 7, 1923 in Marion, to Isaac and Helen (Ufferman) Russell.
John graduated from Willis High School in 1941 and retired in 1982 after 33 years with the U.S. Post Office. A World War II Navy veteran, he recently participated in an honor flight to Washington, D.C. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and was known for his award-winning model ships and historical memoirs.
He is survived by six children, Jane (Mike) St. John, William (Diane) Russell, James (Patricia) Russell, Thomas (June) Russell, Robert Russell, and Mary Catherine (Brad) Quam; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mary Kurtz; and one brother, Charles and his wife Virginia.
Visitation will be Monday from 4-7 p.m. at the Robinson Funeral Home, 32 W. Winter St., Delaware, where a Prayer Vigil will be held at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church with Father Michael Watson as Celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery where members of the Delaware County Veterans Association will conduct military honors.
