Oakley M. Addis, retired teacher of mathematics for Columbus Public Schools (Northland High School), passed away at 4:42 a.m. Tuesday (Feb. 19, 2013).
Mr. Addis, known to his neighbors as "The Tomato Guy," served as an aviation navigator with the United States Air Force. Oakley was born and raised in Jackson, Ohio, and graduated from Rio Grande College in 1961, and received his master's degree from The Ohio State University in 1968.
He is survived by daughters, Janet (James, deceased) Ooten Addis, Patricia (Richard Shira) Addis, Virginia Addis; grandchildren, Charles Wilson, Kirstyn Durham and Meghan Ooten; great-granddaughter, Kalie Ann Wilson; siblings, Rita Gould and Ron Addis; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oakley R. and Jennie Mae (Leslie) Addis.
A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at Hill Funeral Home, 220 S. State St., Westerville, with visitation from 4 to 5 pm Saturday.
