Steven E. Hollifield, 57, a resident of New Paris and formerly of Delaware, Ohio, passed away Feb. 22, 2013, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio, after a brave battle with cancer.
Steve was born in Huber Heights, Ohio, on May 22, 1955, the son of Clifton and Ethel (Cook) Hollifield. Steve graduated from Delaware Hayes High School in 1973, and from Ohio State University with a degree in Business Administration after serving in the Army during the Vietnam Conflict.
Steve had many and varied interests, talents and hobbies, including woodworking and making furniture, quilting (learned from his grandmother as a young boy), home improvement projects, throwing darts in leagues and tournaments, shooting sporting clays and watching action films. He never met a stranger.
He is survived by his wife, Penny; his father, Clifton Hollifield; a brother, Doug Hollifield; two sisters, Debbie Askins and Cathy Hawkins; a daughter, Misty Roule; a stepson, Matthew Cook, a stepdaughter, Melian Daily; three grandchildren; four nephews; and two nieces. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Ethel, and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
A memorial service and burial of cremated remains will be held at a later date in consideration of out-of-town family members. Donations may be made in Steve's name to the American Liver Foundation or to the American Cancer Society.
