SUNBURY - Terry L. Fravel, 66, of Sunbury passed away at home Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, surrounded by his family following an extended illness.
He was born in Columbus on Sept 19, 1947, to the late James R. and Mary Jo (Conover) Fravel. A graduate of Big Walnut High School in 1965, he played on the baseball team, lettering as a freshman in part because of his famous knuckle ball. A true patriot, he went on to serve in the U.S. Navy, with tours to Japan and Iceland. Republican at heart, he was a steadfast American, who proudly flew the American Flag in his front yard and always properly under a spot light.
For 30 years he worked at Nestles' retiring a stockroom supervisor and later worked as a salesman for Oberfield's.
Terry was a member of the Sunbury United Methodist Church, where he was a former trustee and volunteer, Sunbury VFW Post No. 8736, and Sparrow Lodge 400 F&AM. He was a fan of all sports, especially Cleveland Indian baseball and OSU football.
Always fun loving, at times he possessed a childish excitement when finding ways to help people. As a gifted storyteller, he enjoyed the art of the bluff. Fiercely loyal, he was kind and helpful. He enjoyed time spent playing with his buddy and dog Buck, his mixed Borador. With a huge heart, there was nothing he wouldn't do for his girls.
He is survived by his wife of 14 years Karen P. (Rellinger), daughters Traci and Terra Fravel both of Sunbury and his brother Russell C. (Doris) Fravel of Danvers, Mass. He also bonded closely with Steven Semrad of Herndon, Va., who was his bone marrow donor in 1999.
Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Monday, Masonic Services 8 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR's 3 at 61, Sunbury. Services celebrating the life of Terry Fravel will be Tuesday 10:30 a.m. at Sunbury United Methodist Church, 100 W. Cherry St., Sunbury with Pastor Mike Mack officiating. Military honors will be provided at the church by the Delaware County Veterans Association. Burial will follow at a later date in Fancher Cemetery.
