Desiree Hope Metzger, 60, of Delaware, known throughout the area for her loving hugs and overly warm heart, died Tuesday (Nov. 13, 2012) at Grady Memorial Hospital in Delaware.
Born in Mansfield to her loving parents Edwin and Janet Krichbaum, she was an active child who loved family and school. Graduating from Mansfield Senior High in 1971, she went on to marry Rick Metzger of Bucyrus in 1972. Soon after, the couple relocated to Powell to raise their two sons.
Desiree was active throughout the community as well as Olentangy Schools, becoming involved in couponing as well as recycling. After relocating to Delaware, she became involved in multiple community programs, offering help and comfort wherever she could. Desiree became a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Delaware and thoroughly enjoyed being part of the congregation as well as helping in many of their outreach programs. Known for her warm and giving nature, she befriended each person she met and was quick to offer support and love in any way she could. Desiree had never met a stranger who didn't leave a friend.
She is survived by her parents, Edwin and Janet of Mansfield; brother, Timothy of Columbus; sons, Jason and Christopher of Westerville; and nephew, Ryan of Gahanna.
Desiree was preceded in death by her sister Jennifer of Galion.
A service to celebrate and remember her life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at First Presbyterian Church at 73 W. Winter St., Delaware. The Rev. Deborah Patterson will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that any donations be made to Common Ground of Delaware Ohio.
