Dora "Jean" Hines, 84, Ashley passed away Monday, June 24, 2013, at Ashley Manor Assisted Living Center.
She was born on Jan. 29, 1929, to the late Archie "Earl" and Myrtle "Marie" (Gale) Knauber. A graduate of Ashley High School in 1947, she was a lifelong area resident. First and more foremost she was a wife, mother, and grandmother. She also worked at R.B. Powers Ribbon Company both as a young woman and later in her life.
Jean married Stuart Hines on Sept. 11, 1947 in Greenup, Ky. Together they raised a family and shared a wonderful life until his passing on Feb. 17, 2006.
She enjoyed quilting, playing cards, working puzzles and playing Scrabble. Skilled with a needle, she created sock monkeys for grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a wonderful cook and baker, her fried chicken, black raspberry pie, jellies and rhubarb sauce will long be remembered. She was considered mom to many more than her own and she always made sure no one left her house hungry.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Clara Buckman of Waverly, Ky., Carl (Yvonne) Hines of Ashley, Raechel (Richard) Darst of Delaware, Roberta (Richard) Scheeler of Ashley, Randy (Stephanie) Hines of Ashley, Ricky Hines of Lewis Center, Stacey (Tressa) Hines of Cardington, 16 Grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, Brother Richard Knauber of Augusta, Ga., Sisters: Edith Beardsley of Montgomery, Texas, Norma Jane Wood of Ashley.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by brothers: George, Richard, and Donald Knauber, sisters Ruth Main, Mildred Ward, and Kathryn Cook.
Friends may call Thursday 5-6 p.m. at the Snyder-Rodman Funeral Center, 1510 W. William St. at Valleyside Dr., Delaware, where memorial services will follow Thursday at 6 p.m., with Pastor Dwight Cimino officiating. Inurnment will follow at a later date in Westfield Cemetery.
