James L. Newell, 80, of Radnor, died Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013, at his home.
He was born March 18, 1933, in Delaware to Vernia and Helen (Griffith) Newell. He graduated from Willis High School in 1951 and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was employed by Tecumseh Products in Marion and retired from ODOT in 1997 and was also employed by the Delaware Co. Fair. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, Eagles Lodge, Elks Lodge, VFW, Amvets and the Farm Bureau.
He is survived by his wife Shirley, son Mitchell (Cheryl) of Radnor, daughter, Tracey (James) Howell of Delaware and three grandsons, Sean (Haley) Newell, Cody and Clay Howell.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Leo and Dale and two sisters, Pauline Garey and Betty Rittenhouse.
A visitation and gathering will be Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Robinson Funeral Home. A graveside service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in Radnor Cemetery with Rev. James Stevens officiating. The Delaware County Veterans Association will conduct military honors. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation, 2800 Corporate Exchange Drive, Suite 265, Columbus, OH 43231.
