DELAWARE - John P. McGarvey, 84, of Delaware, Ohio passed away peacefully on Oct. 30, 2013, at Delaware Health Care Center in Delaware, Ohio. John was born Dec. 17, 1928, to Howard Marcellus and Ann McGarvey.
Surviving are his wife Wendy (Runyon); son Louis (Barbara), Howard Michael, Paul (Debby), and John (Linda); daughter Mary; grandchildren, Howard Michael Jr., Timothy (Irene), Daniel, Christine, Aimee, Molly, Sara, and Elaine; and great-grandchildren Howard Michael III, Jordan, Noah John Paul, and Ethan.
John was preceded in death by his parents; Thelma Lucille (Primmer), his wife of 60 years; daughter-in-law Elaine; grandchildren Lauren and Natalie; brothers, Dave, Don, and George; and sister Dorothy.
A long-time resident of Columbus, and Logan, John was a World War II veteran, a Grand Master at the Linden Lodge of the Masonic Order, a Worthy Patron of the Eastern Stars, and a member of the Logan Shriners. A wonderful storyteller, his loving children will remember his humorous anecdotes about family and Columbus events.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, November 4, 2013 at the Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home Logan, Ohio with Marguerite McGrady officiating. Burial will be Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant, Ohio Military graveside service will be held by the Hocking County Honor Guard.
Calling hours will be observed Sunday, November 3, 2013 from 2-4pm at the funeral home. A Masonic service will be held, Sunday afternoon. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Shriners Burn Unit in John Paul's memory.
