Lily "Riri" Herman Smith, 85, of Delaware, died Wednesday (Nov. 14, 2012) in the Arbors At Delaware.
She was born Nov. 2, 1927, in Allen, Ky., to Samuel and Della (Hughes) Jarrell. She was a retired librarian at the Ohio Northern University and the University of Kentucky Medical School. Lily was a lover of quilt making, flower gardening and creating beautiful Christmas trees. Her greatest joys were nature, music, poetry, talking to people and her children.
She is survived by her son, Steven (Nancy) Herman of Mount Gilead; her daughters, Elizabeth Herman (Randall) Ferrell of Wrentham, Mass., and Gay Herman (Ronald) Preston of Delaware; a grandson, Charlie (Misty) Herman of Edenton, N.C.; great-granddaughters, Alyssa and Alexis Herman of Edenton, N.C.; a brother, Reg Jarrell of Munith, Mich., and a sister-in-law, Wanda Jarrell of Delaware.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Burns Jarrell and Joe Jarrell; and sisters, Bertha Cox, Dorothy Bentley, Lizzie Sammons and Nell White. She was also preceded in death by her beloved dog, Lizzie.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at the Robinson Funeral Home where a brief service celebrating Lily's life will follow at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Wallace White.
