PLAIN CITY — Mary Ellen Hershberger, 84, of Delaware, passed away peacefully Tuesday evening, Jan. 3, 2017 with her daughters at her side after an extended illness.
Ellen was born Dec. 12, 1932, in Norfolk, Va.
She was a member of the Plain City United Methodist Church which played a large part of her life while raising her two daughters. She was an avid reader of the Bible as she continued in her faith throughout her life.
She retired from Nursing after many years of service and was a very talented seamstress. Ellen was also active in the Plain City VFW Darby Post 3268 Auxiliary.
Preceded in death by her parents, Monroe and Sarah (Schlabach) Miller; beloved husband of 50 years, whom she married June 3, 1956; Jonas D. "Joe" Hershberger in 2006; brother, Willis Miller; brother-in-law, Menno "Brownie" Yoder.
Survived by her two loving and devoted daughters, Valerie Ann Hershberger, Shelly Jo Hershberger, both of Delaware; and a sister, Mabel Yoder.
The family will receive friends 4-7 p.m. Friday at Ferguson Funeral Home, 202 E. Main St. (St. Rt. 161 W.), Plain City. The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017, at Sharon Mennonite Church, 7675 Amity Pike, Plain City, with Melissa Fuson officiating and burial at a later date.
