Sylvester "Syl" Saylor, 74, of Jackson and formerly of Delaware, passed away Tuesday (Dec. 4, 2012) at home surrounded by his family following a year-long illness.
Born on Sept. 16, 1938 in Oil Springs, Ky., he was the son of the late Gail Saylor and Mable (Blanton) Spencer of Florida. A U.S. Airforce veteran, he worked as an electrician for Anderson's and then as a control officer for the Yuma County Sheriff Department. He also served as a Liberty Township volunteer fireman for 21 years.
An avid fan of NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Junior, he enjoyed fishing and bowled in the Chillicothe Bowling League. He was also a skilled woodworker. A true perfectionist, he was detail oriented and organized. An electrician by trade, he could fix anything and was happiest in his garage tinkering on a project and being with his treasured family.
Sylvester will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his beloved wife of 20 years, Sandra (Howell); children, Kim Spencer of Worthington, Karen (Rick) Hall of Ashley, Melissa (Matt) Pinnix of Sunbury, Donald (Yolanda) Gooding Jr. of Marietta, Ga., Ronald (Beverly) Gooding of Warner Robins, Ga., Beth (Fred) LaVigne of Sanford, Maine, and Shawn (Debbie) Gooding of Logan; 17 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Chalmer (Carol) Salyor of Silver Springs, Fla.; sisters, Leona Roberts of Silver Springs, Fla., and Margaret Roberts of Delaware; stepsister, Sharon Stultz of Delaware; and aunts, uncles and cousins.
