Jewell G. Layton, 69, of Sunbury, died Friday morning (Nov. 9, 2012) at The James Cancer Hospital in Columbus.
She was born March 22, 1943, in Madison Creek, W. Va., to the late Luther R. and Julia A. (Adams) White Sr. She was a member of the Sunbury Christian Church, Past Madam President of Eagles #3614, and VFW Post #8736. She retired from the Delaware County Engineers Office as a Dept. Supervisor after 32 years of service. Jewell enjoyed reading, golf and spending time with her family, friends and church family. She will be remembered for her love of her family, friends and her pets. Jewell also enjoyed the plays put on at the church.
She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Dale Layton, whom she married Sept. 17, 1960 in Westerville; a son, Dale (Heidi) Layton Jr. of Sunbury; a daughter, Melaine Layton (Edward Shuminski Jr.) of Sunbury; grandchildren, Joseph (Kendra) Johnson II and Daneill Johnson; a great-grandchild, Jessica Johnson; brothers, Guy E. (Sue) White, Beuford (Patty) White, both of Sunbury; and sister-in-law, Juanita White of Newark.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Billie, Paul, and Luther Jr.; and a sister, Patty Smith.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Ohio 3 at 61, Sunbury. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sunbury Christian Church, 250 Rainbow Ave., Sunbury, with the Rev. Mike Bratten officiating.
