Robert W. "Bob" Meyer (1920 - 2013)

Robert W. Meyer, 92, of Delaware, died Wednesday (Jan. 9, 2013) in Willow Brook Christian Village.
He was born Nov. 7, 1920 in Burlington, Iowa, to Fred and Lorene (Hallgren) Meyer. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific. Bob graduated from Southern Illinois University and received a master's degree from Iowa University. He was a resident of Delaware since 1948 and was employed at OWU beginning in 1948 and retired as Vice-President of Business Affairs in 1988.
He was a member, trustee, elder and choir member at the First Presbyterian Church. He was a former member of the Rotary Club, Human Relations Council, City Council, United Way, the board of the First National Bank, an enthusiastic supporter of Habitat for Humanity and Liberty Community Center and in 2001 with his wife, Bette, received the Wayne Hilborn Life Achievement Award.
Bob is survived by his wife of 69 years, Bette (Eckert); three sons, Paul (Lisa), John (Vicki) and Tim (Lydia); nine grandchildren, Shannon, Emily, Amy, Larry, Leon, Lauren, Jeff, Matthew and Ried; four great-grandchildren, Madison, Tiernan, Max and Maria; and a niece, Ginny Ann Hopkirk.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Fred.
Visitation will be from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church where a memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Deborah Patterson officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.
