Everett B. Helton (1927 - 2013)

Everett B. Helton, 85, went to be with the Lord Friday afternoon (Feb. 15, 2013) at St. Ann's Hospital in Westerville.
He was born Nov. 24, 1927, in Lebanon, Va., to the late George and Mary (Hubbard) Helton. He was a member of the Appleton Baptist Church and the Just Singers Gospel Group. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict in Germany. Everett lived in Sunbury for 34 years, coming from Lewis Center. Everett loved to spoil his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing at the cabin at Lake Erie, playing guitar, singing, cooking, baking and woodworking. He could go into the kitchen and throw together ingredients without measuring and come up with good food, apples pies, dinner rolls, and blackberry dumplings. Everett and his wife, Ruby, were always together, whether at home or fishing.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Ruby (Hubbard) Helton, whom he married Nov. 12, 1978, in Sunbury; sons, Dean (Beth) Helton of Sparta, Gary Helton of Marengo, Edward (Peggy) Clark of Delaware; daughter, Mildred Helton of Gahanna; step-sons, Harry (Peggy) Wymer of Delaware, Donald ( Ruth) Wymer of Marengo, Charles (Jeanine) Wymer of Galena; step-daughters, Luana (John) Simpson of Columbus, Nancy Bartley of Delaware, Laura (Nick) Pennington of Sunbury; numerous grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; brothers, Arnold (Laurie) Helton of Sparta, Jesse (Minnie) Helton of Sparta, Claude Helton of Radnor; sister, Elizabeth Hubbard of Delaware; his faithful canine companion of 13 years, Spooky Duke.
He was preceded in death by a son, Steve Helton.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Ohio 3 at Ohio 61, Sunbury, and also one hour prior to the 10 a.m. service on Wednesday. Interment will follow with Military Honors in Fairview Memorial Park.
