Kathryn Louise Hawk Smith

Kathryn Louise Hawk Smith died in Westlake, Ohio, April 4. She was 94.
Kathryn was born Sept. 14, 1918, in Lafayette, Ohio. She was the youngest daughter of Walter O. Hawk and Mabel Yoakam Hawk of Lafayette. Her sisters and brothers, all deceased, included Dwight (Mildred), Elizabeth (Betty) Dowell (Charles), Michael (Florence), Martha Belle Sullivan (Regis, living), Walter Jr. (Rowena, living). Sisters Dorthy Jean and Jo Ann died in infancy.
Kathryn graduated from Lafayette High School in 1936 and Lima Secretarial School. She married Donald Edwin Smith (died 1991) of Gomer, Ohio, on July 20, 1940. Don served in the Army during WWII in the Pacific Theatre. After the war they eventually settled near Hilliard, Ohio. Kathryn worked for the Hilliard and Upper Arlington, Ohio, school districts. After the death of Don she lived at Willow Brook Christian Community, Delaware, Ohio, and Brighton Gardens, in Westlake, Ohio, and went to be with her Lord after a long illness.
Kathryn is survived by her three children, Kelly (Thomas), Loudonville, Ohio, Michael (Gail), North Ridgeville, Ohio, and Steven (Patricia), Columbia, S.C. Kathryn's six grandchildren include Scott Mallory (Christine), Thomas (Buck) Mallory (Katharine), Christian Mallory, all of Columbus, Ohio, Christina Smith Byler (Gabriel) of Grafton, Ohio, Matthew Smith of Norwalk, Ohio, and Nathan Smith of Columbia, S.C. Kathryn had nine great-grandchildren, with another due soon.
Funeral services will be held at the Zion Lutheran Church, Lafayette, Ohio, at 11 a.m., April 20, 2013, with calling hours at the church one hour before the service. A lunch will be served at the church immediately following burial. Memorials may be sent to Crossroads Hospice (online or 9775 Rockside Road, Suite 270, Valley View, Ohio, 44125), and Brighton Gardens (27819 Center Ridge Road, Westlake, Ohio, 44145).
