MOUNT GILEAD - John P. Hopfer Jr., 76, of Mt. Gilead died Friday June 6, 2014 in Mansfield.

He was born Nov. 26, 1937, in Ebensburg, PA. to the late John P. and Bertha (Wadsworth) Hopfer, Sr.

John was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army. He had worked at Nippert in Delaware in the maintenance department. He was a member of the Delaware Eagles, enjoyed a good fishing trip and was a collector of many items.

John is survived by his children; Karen Curtis of Lansing, Mich., Vonda (James) Jones of Marengo, and Wendy Richardson of Shelby; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and sister Pearl A. Long of Johnstown, Pa.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by three sisters, Doris Willits, Ann Mardis, an infant sister and an infant granddaughter.

Friends may call Thursday June 12, 2014 from noon until 1 p.m. at which time the funeral service will begin at the Gompf Funeral Home, 440 Center Street in Cardington. The burial will follow in Ashley Cemetery with military honors.
