Dorothy Ann Whelehon Obituary
Our beloved mother, Dorothy Ann Whelehon, 86, passed away peacefully with family present on November 29, 2012, at Aging Angels in Ramona, CA. Dorothy Ann Thompson was born and raised in Shelbyville, Tennessee. She married Paul W. Whelehon (from Missouri) in Jackson, Tennessee, where her children, Brenda, David, and Janice Ann, were born. Her last three sons, Joe, Steve and Dan, were born in San Jose, California, after the family moved across country.
Through the years, corporate business promotions brought relocation and resettling in the Midwest, East Coast, New England and back to California.
Dorothy and Paul moved to San Diego Country Estates in 1977. They were early members of the San Vicente Country Club and the original owners of the Village Store. Dorothy was a founding member of the San Vicente Valley Club.
Dorothy had a wonderful laugh appreciating the simple joys of life, and loved the time spent with husband, children and grandchildren. Her southern cooking, as well as her signature cakes and pies, were family favorites. She enjoyed parties, social events and her women's golf group. People were drawn to her beautiful smile, gentle nature and witty comments. Dorothy had a knack for flower arranging, loved time in the garden and enjoyed volunteering with the Friends of the Ramona Library.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Kerry and Maggie Moore Thompson; her devoted husband of 50 years, Paul; her loving son, David; son-in-law, Robert Singyke; and siblings, Mary Elizabeth, R.K. and Tipton. After Paul died in 1996, Dorothy found renewed happiness in a remarriage to Robert "Bob" Pope from Minnesota. They enjoyed their brief time together before Bob passed away less than a year later.
She will be missed by her five children, Brenda Russell, Jan Singyke of Anchorage, Alaska, Joe Whelehon of Sebastopol, California, Steve (Joyce) Whelehon of Ramona, and Dan (Pam) Whelehon of Ramona; daughter-in-law, Beverly Whelehon of Hamilton, Montana; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She is also survived by her brother, Bill (Naomi) Thompson of Shelbyville, Tennessee.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Ramona Library or a Parkinson's organization of your choice.
