Mary Kay Amidei Obituary
Mary Kay Amidei, 69, died peacefully Thursday, July 12, 2012, at The San Diego Hospice in Carlsbad, California.
Born Mary Kay Makins on November 18, 1942, in Junction City, Kansas, she was the only child of the late Alfred E. Makins, who was killed during WWII, and Mary Jean Grentner-Makins-Minnick, a longtime resident of Junction City, Kansas, who passed away in 2010.
She is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Joseph Amidei; her devoted children, Amy and John Joseph "J.J." of San Diego, California; half-brother, John D. Minnick of Topeka, KS; step-sister, Joanne Babich of Raytown, MO; and sister-in-law, Sharyn Minnick of Overland Park, KS. She is also survived by seven nieces and nephews.
Mary Kay attended St. Xavier's School in Junction City, Kansas, graduated from KState in 1964 with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, and was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority. She later returned to obtain her Master Degree from KU in 1979. She was an elementary school teacher for many years in the Shawnee Mission School District.
When she and her family moved to California in 1985, she embraced the world of real estate. She served as a real estate broker for ERA Eagle Realty in the Rancho Penasquitos/San Diego area working side by side with her husband, Joe. They were quite the power couple, ranked as the 4th Team out of all of ERA's Nationwide Real Estate Network and ranked the 2nd Team in the United States with sales topping over 10 million dollars. Together they won many awards and honors.
Her closest friends were members of her Bible Study Group. She later developed a passion for writing and was a member of the San Diego Christian Writers Guild. She was a poet and published Christian author.
A Memorial will be held July 23, 2012, at 11:00 AM at Maranatha Chapel, 10752 Coastwood Road, San Diego, CA 92127.
