JEAN VILOV Obituary

Jean Mitchell Vilov

POCOMOKE CITY — Jean Mitchell Vilov, 81, of Pocomoke City died peacefully Tuesday, June 21, 2010, at her home in Pocomoke City.

She was born on March 4, 1930, in Granada, Colo., to the late Elmer and Pansy Mitchell.

Jean was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was born in Granada, and settled with her family in El Cerrito, Calif. She met and married Tom Vilov in 1956 and they lived in New Jersey, Louisiana, Ohio and California, before settling on the Eastern Shore in 1965. Jean looked at each move as a new adventure and made friends wherever she lived.

She started working at Lankford Produce when it was a small family owned produce provider; during the next 22 years, she watched it grow into Lankford Sysco Foods. She was known for baking dozens of delicious spiced rum cakes for her co-workers every holiday season. Jean was very social and enjoyed entertaining guests at home and dining out with friends. She loved to dance and regularly attended big band performances, cotillions and square dancing events with her husband and friends. She loved to travel and enjoyed bowling, and looked forward to playing bridge every month with longtime friends. Her greatest joy was spending the week in Duck, N.C., every summer with the entire family. Her courageous 10-and-one-half year battle with cancer was nothing short of a miracle. Throughout her illness, she maintained a strong zest for life, showed incredible resilience and always stayed positive. Her strong faith gave her the courage and strength to carry on.

She was an active member of Salem United Methodist Church, the adult Christian Fellowship Class and UMW. Jean will always be remembered for her beautiful smile, twinkle in her eyes and her wonderful sense of humor.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Tom Vilov; three daughters, Sherri Vilov and her husband, Frank Hawkins, of Delray Beach, Fla.; Kim Vilov and her husband, Dean Jolliffe, of Washington and Shelley Vilov and her husband, Braulio Agnese, of Washington; son, Mark Vilov his wife, Tanya Aydelotte Vilov, of Salisbury; four granddaughters, Natalie and Sophie Hawkins, Blair and Leah Vilov; one brother, Ron Mitchell and his wife, Jeannie, of Elbert, Colo.; two nephews, Kyle Mitchell and his wife, Cynthia, of Cripple Creek, Colo., and Skye Mitchell of Denver.

A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Holloway Funeral Home in Pocomoke City. A funeral service officiated by the Rev. Dr. Sally B. Dolch will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Salem United Methodist Church in Pocomoke City. A private interment will follow in Bethany United Methodist Cemetery on Third Street in Pocomoke City. The family will gather for a reception in the Salem fellowship hall following the interment.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Salem United Methodist Church in Pocomoke City, PO Box 145, Pocomoke City, Md. 21851; or to the Costal Hospice, PO Box 1733, Salisbury, Md. 21802.

Arrangements are in the care of Holloway Funeral Home PA at 107 Vine St. in Pocomoke City, Md. 21851. To send condolences to the family visit www.hollowayfh.com.
