Barbara Ann Nissley

SEAFORD—Barbara Ann Nissley of Seaford died Wednesday, June 26, 2013, after a long battle with cancer. She is survived by her spouse, Beth Ann Kopicki; sister, Patricia, and Richard Naumann; niece, Jennifer, and James Foster and their precious girls, Callie, Faye and Samantha; along with many friends and family.

Barbara was born in Lancaster, Pa., the eldest daughter of Richard and Faye Nissley. She settled in Harrisburg and began a long career helping others. She worked for 20 years at the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence, and as a consultant for the Pennsylvania Department of Health. Barbara was a master trainer, passionate about her work with children witnesses of domestic violence, the effect of poverty on people's lives, women's health issues and AIDS.

Barbara was never far from a book, loved cooking and entertaining, and had many four-legged friends. She was active in the women's movement in the 1970s, and a generous supporter of social justice organizations and the arts. Barbara was named Delmarvalous Woman of the Year in 2010 for her service and courage, and was co-captain of the Seaford Middle School team at the time of her death. She adored every moment as Aunt Bubs, and had a laugh that will never be forgotten. A service of remembrance will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Georgetown on Saturday, July 6, at 10:30 a.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Western Sussex or your local domestic violence program.
