Catherine Ann Winder Parsons
Salisbury—Catherine Ann Winder "Kitty" Parsons, 85 died Saturday, December 1, 2012 at Salisbury Genesis Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Salisbury, MD.
Born in Quantico, MD, she was the daughter of the late Rayfield, Sr. and Nettie (Dennis) Winder. Her late husband, Douglas Irvin Parsons, Sr. died in 1990.
She was a graduate of the former Salisbury High School and matriculated at Virginia State University in Petersburg, VA, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics. She did furthered studies, receiving a Master's equivalency from University of Maryland (Baltimore) and Salisbury University.
Her teaching career spanned 35 years as a home economics teacher at the former Salisbury High School and Wicomico Senior High, retiring in 1982.
She was an active member of 50 years at Wesley Temple United Methodist Church in Salisbury, serving on the United Methodist Women. She was a charter member of the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa Inc., Beta Tau Chapter of Salisbury; member of Wicomico County and Maryland Retired School Personnel Association where she was a community volunteer for 25 years; member of the Salisbury High School Alumni Association; conducted blood pressure screenings for the Hypertension Detection and Follow-up Program through the American Heart Association and Wicomico County Health Department and judge for entries at the Wicomico County Home and Farm Show.
She is survived by one son: Douglas Irvin Parsons, Jr. of Salisbury; one granddaughter: Jodi M. Parsons of Crisfield; one step-son: Rev. Pierre Parsons of Salisbury; one niece: Karen W. Carter of Dallas, TX; one nephew: John R. (Kimberly) Webster III of Upper Marlboro; three great-nephews: Austin Carter, John IV and Dante' Webster and a host of other relatives.
A brother Rayfield Winder, Jr. and sister Mildred W. Webster preceded her in death.
A funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 8, 2012 at Wesley Temple United Methodist Church, 1322 West Road, Salisbury. Interment will be in Green Acres Memorial Park in Salisbury. Friends may call Jolley Memorial Chapel, 1213 Jersey Road, Salisbury, Friday evening from 6-8 pm and at the church, Saturday, one hour prior to service. Fraternal rites will be held 7:00 p.m. Friday evening.
