Earl D. Strautz Sr.(1932 - 2013)

Earl D. Strautz, Sr.

Horsey—Earl Donald Strautz, Sr. of Horsey, VA, passed away on February 9, 2013, at Riverside Rehabilitation Center in Parksley, VA.

The son of Earl A. Strautz and Pauline Zink, Earl was born and raised in Savanna, Illinois. He came to the Eastern Shore of Virginia as a Seabee with the United States Navy, where he met and married a local girl, Kathryn Justice. Earl and Kathryn owned and operated Earl's Grill and Sporting Goods in Temperanceville, VA, for thirty-five years. Earl was a member of the Temperanceville Masonic Lodge #121, A.F. & A.M., and the Temperanceville Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter #88, for over fifty years. Earl started Little League Baseball on the Eastern Shore of Virginia by applying for the 1st League Charter from Little League International in Williamsport, PA. He served as the first President of the North Accomack Little League for ten years.

Earl is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Kathryn Strautz; his sons, Richard J. Strautz (Debra Strautz), and Earl Donald Strautz, Jr. (J. Dannehl Strautz); his grandchildren, Courtney Jean Strautz and David Rosser Strautz; a brother, Dr. Robert L. Strautz; a niece, Kristen Gilbert; and nephews, Eric Strautz and Carl Strautz.

Special thanks are given to the aides who helped Earl and Kathryn over the past few months; Robin Joynes, Janice Sutton, Regina Custis, Rosie Brittingham, Barbara Marshall and Susan Settle.

Funeral services will be conducted from the chapel of the Williams-Parksley Funeral Home on Sunday, February 17, 2013, at 2:00 PM. Interment will following in the Downing's Cemetery, Oak Hall, VA. There will be a visitation at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
