Evelyn Layfield Callaway

Delmar—Evelyn Layfield Callaway, of Delmar DE, went home to be with her Lord & Savior on Mon, Dec 10, 2012. She died just 3 days before her 79th birthday. Born in Delmar MD on December 13, 1933, she was the daughter of the late J. Ellegood & Bertha Layfield, &and a sister of the late Doris Layfield Calhoun.

After graduating from Wicomico High School in 1951, Mrs. Callaway began working as a bookkeeper at Southern States in Salisbury. She later worked at Bryan & Brittingham in Delmar and for H&R Block in Seaford and Salisbury. However, she will mostly be remembered for her many years behind the wheel of a school bus in Sussex County. She loved driving a school bus, and always claimed that interacting with children kept her young. For many years her husband, Jim was active with the National Guard and Army Reserves and she was always very supportive of his work. A member of Living Stones Church in Salisbury, she was a devout Christian. She was always active in her church, teaching Sunday school at Melson's United Methodist Church, acting as church secretary for a number of years and doing missions work. Participating in the prayer chains and ministering to others were considered her life's work.

Mrs. Callaway is survived by her husband of 58 years, James C. Callaway of Delmar

DE; her son, Brett Callaway & his wife Ann of Salisbury MD, & their children

Jonathan & Jennifer; & her daughter, Karen Muessig & her husband Scott of

Severna Park MD, & their children Pierce, Micah, & James. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews & cousins.

A funeral service will be held at 2pm on Sat, Dec 15 at Living Stones Church in Salisbury MD, with visitation beginning at noon. Pastor David Hudson will be officiating. Burial will be in Melson's Cemetery in Delmar. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Living Stones Church, 31695 Winterplace Parkway, Salisbury MD 21804.
