Janet Lee Marshall Ward
CRISFIELD — Janet Lee Marshall Ward, 81, of Crisfield died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, at McCready Memorial Hospital in Crisfield. Born in Marion Station on Sept. 20, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Fred Marshall and Sophia B. Marshall, and was the stepdaughter of the late Grace C. Marshall.
A graduate of Marion High School, Class of 1948, she was retired from the Somerset County Health Department where she worked 17 years. Prior, she was a nursing assistant for many years at McCready Hospital and Dr. Barhan's office in Crisfield.
Janet was a devoted member of Immanuel United Methodist Church, where she was co-chairman of the Soup Kitchen, leader of Circle 5, and member and past president of the UMW. She also was past president of the Crisfield Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Currently, she was treasurer of the Somerset County Republican Club, the Wade and Helen Sue Ward Scholarship Foundation, and was organist for St. Peter's United Methodist Church and St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Janet enjoyed doing for others and volunteered for the Crisfield Heritage Foundation and Crisfield Chamber of Commerce.
Most of all, she enjoyed being with her family and spoiling her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, C. Russell Ward of Crisfield; two daughters, Pam Ward Eskridge and her husband, Gary, of Galestown, Md., and Tammy Ward of Milton, Fla.; two grandchildren, Benjamin and Emily Eskridge of Galestown; a brother, Freddie Marshall and his wife, Pat, of Mardela Springs; sisters-in-law, Jenny Lee Evans of Crisfield and Jane M. Ward of Baltimore; nieces and nephews, Charles "Tot" Woolston of Baltimore, Jim Ward of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Sue Lachapelle of Holly Springs, N.C., Debby Gregory of Baltimore, Carol Lynn Hall of Crisfield, Patti Monk of Princess Anne, Mike Ward of Crisfield, and Debbie Daugherty Ball of Salisbury; cousins, Charlotte Daugherty of Crisfield, Mildred Daugherty of Salisbury, Bobby Brittingham of Louisa, Va., Marshall Brittingham of Wilmington and Donald Brittingham of Petersburg, Va.; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by two infant daughters and a nephew.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 29, at 2 p.m. at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield, where friends may call Friday evening from 6-8 and Saturday one hour prior to the service. The Revs. Kim Gilson and Jim Riley will officiate. Interment will be in Sunnyridge Memorial Park.
