Joan LeCates

Salisbury-Joan LeCates, 71, of Salisbury, died peacefully on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at her home surrounded by her family. Born on May 1, 1942 in Salisbury, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Isabelle Ehinger.

She was a 1959 graduate of Wi-Hi. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary for Salisbury VFW. While raising her children, she was very involved in all of their activities including, being the Treasurer for the Boy's Club Mother's Club and participating as a Team Mother for Fruitland Little League. She was an avid Steeler's fan and enjoyed watching college basketball, both men and women's. Joan was a loving wife, devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Joan and Jerry opened their door to many throughout their life, treating everyone who came through the door as family.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by a daughter; Sherry Lynn LeCates.

She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years; Jerry LeCates of Salisbury, a son; Jerry LeCates and his wife Candy of Kingsland, TX, a daughter; Tammy Shonkwiler and her husband Rod of Salisbury, a granddaughter; Angel Byrd and her husband Bruce of Salisbury, a great-granddaughter; Monica Lynn Byrd of Salisbury, two sisters; Sylvia Johnson of Delmar and Brenda Downes of Laurel, DE, a brother; Joey Ehinger of Salisbury and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 2PM on Monday, February 10, 2014 at Holloway Funeral Home, Salisbury. A visitation will be held from 12:30 PM - 2:00 PM. Entombment will be held in Wicomico Memorial Park. Rev. Harvey Dixon will officiate.
