Johanna Edith Crisp Dubs
Salisbury-Johanna Edith Crisp Dubs, 85, of Salisbury, formerly of Hagerstown, passed away on Monday, October 21, 2013 at Coastal Hospice At The Lake. Born in Salisbury, she was the daughter of the late Dan W. Crisp and Edith Mellor Crisp.
Johanna received a degree in Education from Salisbury State Teachers
College and then taught school for 30 years at Washington High for the Somerset County Board of Education, retiring in 1988 only to teach at Oak Hill House in Hagerstown for 3 years. She was a member of St. Peters Episcopal Church in Salisbury, Lions Clubs in Middletown, MD, Hagerstown, MD and Salisbury and the Somerset County Teachers Association. She enjoyed bingo and the slots and traveling with her late husband with local camper clubs.
Prior to beginning her teaching career, she was the first woman supervisor of playgrounds for Wicomico County Recreation and Parks. Ms. Dubs was also a nationally accredited women's basketball referee for high school and college. She refereed games all over the Eastern Shore.
She is survived by a daughter, Barbara J. Porter of Boonsboro, MD; a granddaughter, Gail Koster of Alexandria, VA and a grandson, Philip Koster and his wife, Jennifer of Grand Rapid, MI; 2 great grandchildren, Clara Koster and Alexander "AJ" Koster; her pet cat, "Muzzer".
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Albert Dubs in 1989 and a sister, Virginia Bell Crisp.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 25, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury with Rev. Howard Travers officiating. There will be a visitation from 12:30 to 1:30 pm at the Holloway Funeral Home.
