Lillie Mae Purnell

Berlin—Lillie Mae Purnell, 88, of here, departed this life on Friday, February 8, 2013, at the Berlin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Pocomoke, she was the daughter of the late Aline and James Little.

She was a lifelong member of New Collins Temple A.M.E. Church of Snow Hill. She served faithfully as a Communion Steward and kitchen helper until her health failed.

Prior to retiring, she was employed at Beachmark Motel in Ocean City.

Fond memories will remain with her goddaughter, Erika Wickham; grandson, Hosea Showell; cousin, Norma Allen and family; lifelong friend and caregiver, Phyllis (Bobby) Purnell and family; other caregivers, Mary O'Neal, William Whaley and Anna Davis; a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Purnell was also preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Purnell; stepdaughter, Geraldine Purnell; two brothers, Robert Collins and Thomas Little; and one sister-in-law, Sedonia Purnell.

She will lie in repose on Monday from 10 to 11 AM at New Collins Temple A.M.E. Church on Castle Hill Road in Snow Hill. The funeral service will begin at 11 AM. Rev. Darryl Ford will be the officiating pastor. Interment will be in St. Paul's Cemetery on Assateague Road in Berlin. A ministry of comfort and dignity is being provided by Lewis N.
