Linfred Rufus Jones
Quantico—Linfred Rufus Jones, 83, died Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at his home in Quantico, MD after a long illness. Linfred (called by Linny by friends) was born April 15, 1930 in Tyaskin, MD to the late Matthew Jones Sr. and Sarah Jones. He was preceded in death also by a brother, Samuel Goslee.
Linfred received his education at the then colored Salisbury High School, graduating in 1947. He was an Army
veteran after high school and became a lifetime member of the VFW
Post 10159 in Salisbury. He was a farmer by trade before pursuing many employment opportunities.
Linfred was united in Holy matrimony to Genevieve Belle Jones in Head of the Creek, MD on June 17, 1961, being married for 52 years. He was a member of St. James Methodist Church in Head of the Creek, MD. Cherished memories remain with his children: Linfred Jones Jr. of Quantico, Donald Gattis of Salisbury and raised Yeselle McArthur of Baltimore; one brother, Matthew Jones Jr. (Shirley) of Washington, DC; two sisters, Mary Hilda Elzey (Ralph) of Nanticoke and Thelma Martin of Washington, DC; another brother-in-law, John Birckhead of Winter Springs, FL; two other sister-in-laws, Jacqueline Waters of Dover and Marian Birckhead of Princess Anne; along with several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends.
A service will be held at St. James Free Methodist Church in Head of the Creek, MD by Rev. Lewis Reid, pastor, on Monday, May 6, 2013 at 11:00 am. Friends may call two hours prior to the service. Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery.
