Marian Evelyn Snee

Marian Evelyn Snee

SALISBURY—Marian Evelyn Snee, born Nov. 17, 1927 in Richmond Valley, Staten Island, N.Y., passed away at home on Wednesday, May 8, 2013, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was the daughter of Einar S. and Rachel Maria Gregoriussen.

Marian graduated from Tottenville High School on Staten Island, N.Y., where she was on the permanent honor roll and was the president of the school honor society. After graduation she was employed as a legal secretary with a law firm on Wall Street, while taking courses at night to become a court stenographer. She interrupted this work during the summer of 1945, when she joined many other young ladies her age to work on a large farm in Schuylerville, N.Y. (Bullard Orchards), as most of the male farm hands were away in the service of their country. She throughly enjoyed this experience. Marian loved to garden and was a talented ice skater and an avid swimmer in her youth. She loved animals and never met a cat or dog that didn't want to follow her home.

After World War II, Marian married her husband of 66 years, John J. Snee, and moved to Bordertown, N.J., while John was awaiting his discharge from the Army at Fort Dix. After his discharge, Marian helped John complete his college education. She later helped her husband start and develop an oil business here in Salisbury after having moved around the country for 15 years, while he was employed by a major oil company.

Marian was a wonderful daughter, and much-loved mother and wife who willingly made many sacrifices for her family.

Marian was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and one brother.

She is survived by her husband, John; daughter, Rochelle Snee and her husband, Joseph of Seattle, Wash; daughter, Christine Snee of Towson, Md.; son, Thomas Snee and his wife Ruth of Hatboro, Pa; sons, Joseph Snee and David Snee of Salisbury; granddaughter, Arden Snee of Salisbury; grandson, John G. Snee and his wife Tara of Albuquerque, N.M.; and great-granddaughter, Ella Rose Snee of Albuquerque.

A funeral service will be held Monday, May 13, 2013, at 11 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Salisbury, with a visitation hour at the church at 10 a.m.
