Mary DeShields Copeland
PLEASANTVILLE, N.J. —Mary Magdalene DeShields Copeland, 70, of Chatham Avenue, Pleasantville, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012.
Born in Snow Hill, she was the daughter of the late Nathaniel P. and Mary Stevenson DeShields. Upon graduation from the former Worcester High School in Newark, Md., Mary made her home in Atlantic City, N.J., where she was employed at various jobs before retiring from the Golden Nugget Casino.
Mary was a member of Second Baptist Church in Atlantic City.
She is survived by her husband and two stepchildren, William Copeland, Jacqueline and William Copeland Jr.; four sisters, twin, Martha Mae DeShields of Egg Harbor Township, N.J., Barbara McCoy and Shirley Harvey, both of Salisbury and Catherine "Kate" Handy of Laurel, Del.; three brothers, Nathaniel "Jack" DeShields of Atlantic City, John "Harry" Deshields of Pompano Beach, Fla., and Albert L. DeShields of San Angelo, Texas; one aunt, Edith Beatrice Lankford of Snow Hill; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, a sister and brother, Alfonsie D. Purnell and Linwood W. Stevenson, preceded her in death.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, at Second Baptist Church, 110 Isaac Cole Plaza, Atlantic City, N.J., where friends may call two hours prior to service. Interment will be in Atlantic City Cemetery, Pleasantville.
