Melvin Lee Hastings

SALISBURY—Melvin Lee Hastings, 88, of Salisbury died Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at Salisbury Center Genesis Elder Care.

Born in Salisbury, he was the son of the late William Purnell Hastings, Sr. and Ruth Ellen Shockley Hastings.

Mr. Hastings was a U.S. Army/Air Corp veteran serving during World War II. He retired from C. & P Telephone Co. in management, with over 30 years of service. He loved gardening and enjoyed home improvement projects.

He is survived by his children: Lynda Polutanovich of Salisbury, Deborah Purnell and husband, Larry of Ft. Myers, Fla., Cindy Lambert and husband, Richard of Delmar and Susan Faunce and husband, Conrad of Delmar; grandchildren, Bradley Skinner and Michael Culver both of Salisbury, Rebecca Rementer of Delmar, Jaime Toner of Salisbury, Charles Cathell Jr. of Hebron and Gregory Cathell of Delmar; 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Mary Ellen Culver Hastings; brother, William Purnell Hastings, Jr; and sisters, Lois Carr and Thelma Messick.

A funeral service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Holloway Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Hammond Cemetery.
