Rev. Richard D. Brown
Princess Anne —Rev. Richard D. Brown departed this life on Friday, November 9, 2012 at Aurora Senior Living, (Manokin Manor Nursing and Rehab Center), in Princess Anne, MD. Born on June 19, 1919, he was the son of the late John Dewood Brown and the late Mellissa Coleman Brown. He was 93 years old.
He was educated in the Alabama Public School System. He was united in holy matrimony to the late Vermell Parsons Brown for over 30 years. From this union, Rev. Brown proudly accepted her two sons, Derrick and Stewart Jones, as his own. Besides his wife, she was preceded in death by four sisters Ammie Henry, Ella Dawson, Georgia Rogers and Alice Hosely and one sister-in-law, Rosetta Mims.
He was employed by the Campbell Soup Company in Salisbury, Md. He served in the United States Army from 1941-1945 and was member of the NAACP and the American Legion.
Rev. Brown was a faithful member of St. Mary's Missionary Baptist Church in Princess Anne, MD. He was an Assistant Pastor of Shining Star Baptist Church, in Salisbury, MD., under the leadership of Rev. Wade Chambers, someone that he highly regarded as a son. He was a field Missionary for the Progressive Baptist Association and served as interim pastor of several area churches.
Rev. Brown leaves to cherish his memories; two stepsons Derrick Jones (Mable) of Pocomoke City, MD, and Stewart Jones of Baltimore, MD,. one brother, Rev. Alex Lewis Mims of Marvella, Alabama; one sister Leola Mims of Whistler, Alabama; three step granddaughters, Andrea Lynn Teagle, of Owings Mills, MD, Chasity Iler (Damon) of Lawrenceville, Georgia and Shelby Jones of Salisbury, MD; three step great grandchildren, Sydnee, Madison and ; a son and daughter in Christ Rev. Wade Chambers (wife Amanda and daughter Paris of Salisbury, his church families, St. Mary' Missionary Baptist and Shining Star Baptist Church, as well as , nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and other church affiliates.
A funeral service will be held at 12noon, Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Weeping Mary Full Gospel Baptist Church, on Shavox Rd. in Salisbury, MD. A viewing will be held from 10am to 12noon, prior to the service. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Bennie Smith Funeral Home- Salisbury
