Richard Vandergrift Powell Jr.

BRIDGEVILLE, De—Richard Vandergrift Powell Jr., known as "Dicky" to most, Dad or Pop Pop to a few and friend to many others, passed peacefully on Friday, Oct. 5, 2012 at his daughter Melissa Powell-Carver's house in Plattsburgh, NY.

There will be a gathering of family and friends Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, at 7 p.m. at the Delmar, Maryland VFW 410-896-3722 to celebrate the life of Dicky.

Dicky was born in Delmar, Md., the son of Richard V. Powell Sr., and Laura Evans Powell on Nov. 2, 1947. Both parents preceded him in death.

He served in the US Army and served his country proudly during the Vietnam conflict. Dicky worked most of his life as a steel worker and was known for his easy going ways and his love of nature, and forever having a smile on his face.

Dicky is survived by his daughter and her husband, Melissa & Miles Carver, and their four children, Brandon, Lamar, Danah, and Laura. He is also survived by his son Richard V. Powell III. Dicky is also survived by his siblings, Carl & Betty Powell; brother & sister-in-law, Beatrice Hopkins; sister, John & Carrie Jean Reed; brother-in-law & sister, Kathy Hopkins; sister & William Edgar Powell brother.

Dicky is also survived by many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Dicky is preceded in death by his brother, Leslie Howard Powell; his sister, Debbie Ann Twilley & brothers-in-law Fulton & Richard Hopkins.
