Robert O. Whiteley
Williamsburg, Md.-Robert Orem Whiteley, better known as "Bob," of Williamsburg passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014, at his home.
Born in Williamsburg on Jan. 24, 1934, he was the son of the late Walter Orem and Margaret Bradley Whiteley.
After graduating from North Dorchester High School, Class of 1952, he attended the University of Maryland and while there he pledged the Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity. He graduated, Class of 1956, with a degree in accounting. As a young man he moved to New York to pursue a career in accounting. He later moved back to Williamsburg to take over the family business, W.O. Whiteley & Son, as a grain and cucumber dealer.
He was a member of Elks Lodge
1272 in Cambridge and a member of Masonic Lodge Choptank 138 in East New Market and a member and supporter of the Honga Blackwater Annual Game Dinner for many years.
He is survived by one daughter, Julia Whiteley Killian and her husband, Brad, of Raleigh, N.C.; two granddaughters, Lila Grace Killian and Lucinda Jones Killian of Raleigh; and a dear friend, Carolyn Jones of Salisbury.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Walter Whiteley Jr., who passed away in 1932.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 4, at 1 p.m. at Union United Methodist Church, 301 North Main St., Federalsburg. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment will be private. Pallbearers will be Russell Stevens, Mark Adams, David Andrews, Bill Collins, Marty Meredith and Wayne Griffith.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Baywater Animal Rescue, 4930 Bucktown Road, Cambridge, MD 21613.
