Ruth Culver Freeman
Salisbury— Ruth C. Freeman, 86, of Salisbury died on Monday, December 17, 2012 at Hospice on the Lake at Deer's Head Hospital. Born on September 8, 1926 to Mr. and Mrs. S. Reed Chaffey, she was the second of four children. Ruth graduated from Washington High School in Princess Anne, class of 1943, and later took accounting courses at Salisbury University. She was employed by the Division of Reimbursements, State of Maryland for 25 years at both Deer's Head Hospital and the Holly Center, as a Financial Agent III, retiring in 1984. Memberships included Trinity United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star, Four Seasons Garden Club, PGH Plus Volunteers, and the Wicomico Farm Bureau. Ruth loved bridge and for some years played three times a week, loved flowers, was a wonderful cook, but her greatest joy was her grandchildren.
Ruth is survived by her three children, all of Salisbury, Susan C. Dunsten and her husband, Gee and their four children, Andrea, Todd, Katelyn, and Drew and four great-grandchildren, Chloe, Devin, Adriana, and Michaella, by Bob Culver and Cindy Curran and his children, Christopher and Courtney, and by Rick Culver and his wife, Robin and their children, Casie and Chad Culver, Josh and Christine Ward. In addition, her sister, Phyllis Taylor and brother, Samuel Chaffey, and many nephews, nieces, and cousins in her extended family have remained very close throughout her lifetime.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Culver, Sr., a Wicomico County farmer who died in 1977; and their son, Brian Douglas who died at age 2. Also preceding her in death was her second husband of eighteen years, Major Robert W. Freeman. In 2012, she lost her constant companion of the last eight years, Henry Parker. Also preceding her death was that of her sister, Jeanne C. Pusey and a grandson, Michael Dunsten.
In a private family service, Ruth was laid to rest at Parson's Cemetery. A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church in Salisbury on Friday, December 21, 2012 at 11:00 a.m.
